Bayern Munich are reportedly set to miss out on another major transfer target after failing to sign Florian Wirtz.
The Bavarians were thought to be leading the race for the German international until Liverpool entered the fray a few weeks ago.
The Reds reportedly met Wirtz and his family, and a face-to-face meeting between the player and Arne Slot convinced him to choose a move to Anfield.
As it stands, the 22-year-old has said yes to Liverpool, and a deal for him is expected in the coming days after Liverpool reached verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen, as Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Bayern have since conceded defeat in their pursuit of Wirtz and have turned their attention to signing a winger.
Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma, Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo, and AC Milan winger Rafael Leao were reportedly options they were considering.
Bayern director Max Eberl was said to be a fan of Gakpo and had initiated contact with his representatives over a possible move to the Allianz Arena.
Although the interest in Gakpo has somewhat cooled, Bayern remain in the hunt for a winger.
However, the latest report from Germany claims that they are set to miss out on another of their transfer options to Liverpool, again.
The player in question is Portuguese winger Rafael Leao.
According to BILD’s chief correspondent Christian Falk, Liverpool want Leao and could beat Bayern Munich to his signature after the German side cooled their interest in him.
“AC Milan winger Rafael Leao emerged as an option for both Bayern and Liverpool, but it appears that the Bavarian club have cooled their interest in the Portuguese winger,” the journalist wrote.
“Liverpool are edging closer to finalising a deal for Wirtz, but the Reds could still be looking to add more quality to their star-studded squad?
Leao has emerged as an option for the Premier League champions,” the report added.
